Social Media is a very important channel to spread the word about your brand. But with no Brand strategy nor Brand Content you cannot be effective and efficient in this new Marketing arena. And if you’re stuck on outbound methodology with only pushy and interruptive messages, you should turn inbound before coming to Social Media.
1. Brand Strategy
The first step is to have a strategy for your brand. Remember that social media, Facebook and so on, are the strategy for those who don’t have any strategy ! We experimented this option and learned the hard way that the addiction to social media can be fatal to brands, especially when it is paid. A brand strategy is more general than a simple presence on social media but turning viral on those new media can help. Brand Content (creation of content by brands) has become an unavoidable communication mode. Before coming to the social media arena, Brands must think“content first” because coming to social media just to say Hi can be considered as ridiculous by the audience. By creating contents that make sens and respond to the needs of the targeted audience in terms of utility, usability and even entertainment, Brands can be loved on Social Media. From blog posts to digital apps, Brands have to choice the best contents according to their clients needs. The more they go digital, the more real life becomes important. A Brand Content Strategy can be digital oriented but has to include real life actions such us meet-ups and flash mobs.
3. Inbound Methodology
Social Media is a very important part of the Inbound Methodology as it can be helpful to the hole process from attraction to delight. It’s also important to lead nurturing and the process of conversion by delivering the right content to the right person at the right time. The Inbound Methodology is the way to go for Marketers and Brand Managers who want to improve their Marketing approach by turning more permissive and less interruptive. As Social Media can be considered as an external media, Brands should have their own media strategy : Portal/Website, Professional blog, mobile app,… then they can use Paid and Social media to amplify their reach with a high level of earned media and virality.
